We had been in Ohio for a couple days when Hurricane Ike hit and were shocked to feel it's fury all the way up here! The wind was really strong...like Idaho strong, but the trees were all wet so they starting dropping like toothpicks. It was absurd!
This is a tree that we heard as it was falling across the street earlier in the day.
A little while after those trees fell Matt, Lindsey and I were looking out the window at my parent's house and Matt was joking and said something about a huge tree near my parent's house getting ready to fall. When Lindsey and I went over to look sure enough, it toppled right over! Luckily, it didn't fall on the house and no one was hurt.
Then the top of a pine tree next to the garage snapped off and fell on the edge of the garage, so we all ran out and moved the cars in case the wind blew the tree top off. And in true disasterous fashion, the top of the tree fell right where our cars were parked later that day.
As you can imagine, Matt and I spent the next day or two helping to chop up and haul away the debris. The big tree that fell in the yard is still lying around waiting the be removed...can't wait for that project!
Our thoughts and prayers went out to the people in Texas, though. We had a little to clean up and a minor glimpse of the destruction that Ike caused. I can't even imagine what others were left with or without.
