After Matt and I met, our friends started hanging out together. We saw each other almost every day. It was fun getting to know each other and be all kinds of flirty. Both of our sets of roommates were asking if we liked each other and telling us that the other person liked us. We're both on the shy side, so we didn't really say anything for about a month. Then one day, I decided I needed to know whether or not Matt liked me without telling him that I liked him. I came up with a pretty tricky plan. I told him that I liked someone else and wanted his advice on what to do. I figured if Matt liked me this would give him a little push towards telling me. He gave me his advice and told me that he would call me later to see how it went with the other guy. I was completely bummed! I was sure that I had read everything wrong and that he didn't like me. I had no idea what to do.
I called Matt that night and told him that I had e-mailed the other guy and asked him what he thought. I figured I had nothing to lose, because I was just Matt's "friend". UGH! Anyways...Matt told me that he liked someone too. Man...this kid was killing me at this point! I was pretty much crushed by now. He asked me what I thought he should do and I told him to make her something...like a cake. He said that was a good idea, but she didn't like chocolate, so it would have to be vanilla. I thought...that's odd...I don't like chocolate either. Then he asked what he should put on it and I was like...I have no clue, maybe her favorite animal. See...completely random. I told you...I'm strange. Then he said her favorite animal was a giraffe, so he could put that on the cake. I said that that was my favorite animal and he said that he knew that already. Everything went quiet and I said...Oh!...do you want to come over and talk? He said yes and was over at my apartment a few minutes later. We talked for awhile and told each other that we liked each other. We were visibly nervous, so in an attempt to calm our nerves I suggested painting. We painted and talked some more and had a great time! It was an exciting confession of like followed by an agonizing couple of weeks of awkwardness and (FINALLY) our first date. Baskin Robbins and "Mr. and Mrs. Smith". Worst movie ever, but best first date! We even kissed that night (I know!), but don't be too scandalized guys. We had been hanging out for over a month by this time. I remember coming into my apartment and being bombarded for details from my roomates. I gave them the basic gist of the date, but I was in complete shock. I remember thinking over and over again that that was my last first kiss, which is a scary and wonderful thought after a first date.
So...that's how we began dating. I'll finish up in a day or two, so stay tuned again.
